IVF Cycle #1

2/12/2021- We officially have ALL the drugs. Wow what a process that was! Besides all the insurance issues we faced throughout the month we also found out that one of the main medications (Menopur) we needed to start is on backorder due to a “national shortage”. I called numerous pharmacies trying to find Menopur and the two pharmacies that did have it wouldn’t fill just that one prescription, it needed to be prescribed with the Gonal-Rff pen which I already had delivered. Just in case you have no idea what any of this means let me just show you:

This on top of all the emotional stress are the harsh realities of infertility. I’m thankful to have insurance but the outrageous drug prices make me sick and keep in mind these are ONLY two of the medications on that list. Its awful that these astronomical costs of medications and procedures are sometimes the deciding factor to pursue beginning/adding to a family.

When in doubt turn to the IVF support groups on Facebook, it sounds crazy but these strangers will become your rock. I am in a few different groups and they have all helped in different ways. It’s people that understand the extensive medication lists, understand how alone the process can feel, and overall just to vent. We share our experiences to help the next person. So I posted in the group if anyone had a similar situation and they were quick to help, I received a few different suggestions and was able to finally get the last of our medications. These infertility warriors are the reason we are able to start our first IVF cycle next week.

I called Dr. Luzzo’s nursing team today and was told to finish my pills Sunday night and next week we will begin injections. They sent me over this calendar to give me an idea of what will be happening next.

Nervous. Excited. Anxious. READY.
